Silicone Grease / Dow Corning #7 Release Agent

Lubrication of rubber o-rings and PVC or Noryl parts on a water softener, automatic filter or reverse osmosis system is handy in assembly and the prevention of leaks. All of our factory new products already come with lubricated o-rings, pistons, seals and valves, but if you are working on or repairing and older system, use of silicone grease is highly recommended by both the manufacturer and Water Value.

Silicone grease contains no petrolium products that can deform rubber, vinyl or plastic parts. The use of petrolium jelly can eat away at rubber o-rings causing them to deform and eventually leak. Silicone grease can also be used as a lubricant for seals and pistons found in Fleck control valves. If your water contains fine abrasive sediment or iron particles, premature wear and scoring of the piston and seals can occur. The Fleck factory provides this silicone during assembly but if you are repairing a 15-year-old control valve's piston and/or seals, you will want to use some of this grease to ensure longer piston life.

While Dow Corning's #7 Release Agent can be used on metal parts, it is ideally suited for lubrication and protection of platic, rubber, vinyl and PVC. It's not just for water treatment equipment. Water Value now carries a 5.3 ounce tube available on our softener parts page. A very little bit of this grease goes a long way.
