How To Size A Water Softener
June 15, 2007 |
This subject is covered on literally hundreds of web sites but the vast majority of phone calls we receive begin with the statement, “I’m looking at your web site and I can’t figure out what size water softener I need”. The first answer we’re required to determine then is - do they really need a softener? Because if they are unable to figure out which size they need, they obviously are not “looking at your web site”. While the softener sizing chart is only one web page on our site out of thousands, there are links to it saturated all over WaterValue.com and I’ve even found links to it from competitor’s web sites.
In any case, you will need to know a few things in order to choose the proper size softener:
- How much hardness is in your water? This is what water softeners remove.
- How much water do you use? This equates to the number of people using water in your home/building.
- What are your flow rate requirements? Flow rates are posted for each of the softeners we carry.
- How much iron is in your water if any? Iron up to 3 mg/L can be treated with a common softener.
With this information, it is easy to choose the water softener size that you need. Simply visit our handy water softener sizing chart and you’re all set. That brings us to the next question we’re often asked. “Which is the best softener?” Honestly, if we thought there were one of the 3 brands we carry that was better than all the rest, we would only carry that one. All of our equipment is professional grade and is NOT designed or destined to break down in a year or two. We only sell the best you can buy.
